"Working with Robin has always been, and I'm sure always will be, a pleasure for many reasons. Foremost among them his ability to get the sounds, the real sounds, in bugger all time so you're up and working as soon as possible. This means he knows his stuff but it doesn't mean he's not flexible and willing to try anything to make a track work - this attribute being a close second.

Actually there's not much point trying to break points down about Mr. Mai as once you start you realise that, just like any artist who excels, the many parts function to make the whole. Not short on advice but ever judicious as to when to offer it, I can see Robin working just as effectively with a bunch of young fools with bright ideas as with some old, pissed off dudes with a few legendary records under their belts. Which is what he does and everything in between.

I've worked with lots, and all around the world, there are many good reasons as to why I've worked with Robin on so many occasions, be it album, soundtracck or collaborative project in nature.

Incidentally he's quite a good bloke too."

Glenn Richards

(Augie March & Solo)

"Robin Mai is sound engineer and mixing engineer at the height of his powers. I have had the great pleasure of working wth Robin on almost all of my own projects since my return to Melbourne in the year 2000.

I first worked with him on a very large album project with Graeham Goble (Little River Band). From our first meeting and experience of recording together, I was impressed with Robin's easy, light nature, very high skill base, and the ability to very quickly experiment with new sounds and recording techniques. In other words, 'nothing was ever a problem'. Very soon after, I was able to start working with Robin on my own projects, one of which was an improvised, live recording in a studio with an audience of 100 people (certainly not a standard recording date!). He was superb!

Robin also has the innate ability to work with other engineers and assistants in a very friendly and respectful manner. What I most love about Robin's artistry is that he totally understands the extreme dynamic range that I love to play with. Anything from the most subtle Tibetan singing bowls and whispered vocals, to hard-core rock'n'roll, and anything in between.

Robin also has the energy, commitment and patience that one hopes for in a sound engineer. Too often in the past, I have had the opposite experience of engineers not wanting to go that extra mile to achieve something different.

So if you want subtle, powerful, clear, state-of-the-art sounds and vibe, he's the man (and he makes a mean coffee too!)!! In my experience, Robin is the Best! I don't even think to call anyone else for my projects. He's '1st call'. I am sure that I am not alone in this opinion of Robin. He has engineered and mixed many, many great projects and musicians. To be really honest, I could keep praising Robin, but this might end up quite a few pages long!"

David Jones

"Robin Mai is "the man with golden ears" with the best mid range around in my opinion.

He can get the best tone out of any gear, whether it be digital or analogue; he is king with analogue outboard gear and Neve desks mixed with a Protools rig.

Robin also has a very good disposition to be in the studio with which is EXTREMELY important to me. Patient, passionate and professional . With great ear for tempo and tuning he's the perfect engineer / co-pilot for me to self produce with.

I've had the pleasure to make two great and successful albums with him and we have worked together on countless other projects. I value his opinion, skill and experience greatly. He's the best!"
